    • In December of 2009, the Pew Research Center created the “Global Restrictions on Religion” which was the first series of annual coded data reports that demonstrate the level of government restrictions and social hostilities involving religion around the world. Using two indexes, rating over 200 countries and self-governing territories in these restrictions, this government requisition index (GRI) covers over 1900 cases from a span of 10 years to help give the public a better understanding of how governments and societal groups impinge on the practice of religion.
